Beautiful antique Victorian stick and ball platform rocking chair.
The chair’s design and construction are complicated and elaborate.
The solid hard-wood frame uses over 50 different individually fashioned wooden components, plus the metal rocking mechanism.
Many of the individual wooden pieces are carefully fashioned into gentle curving or rounded shapes.
The backrest lower section in made up of slim vertical slats, the upper section features ornamental spindles, and side supports end in beehive finials.
The armrests have a slight serpentine curve.
Age and use have given the chair’s wooden surfaces a pleasing patina.
The fabric seat was professionally re-upholstered with period design material years ago by my parents, but is intact and unblemished.
The joinery of the many wooden parts is sturdy, no loose joints or wobble.
No cracks, splits, or chips.
The platform rocking mechanism is original and works perfectly.
