General Description:
The Emergency Room Director is a registered professional responsible for all aspects of patient care in the Emergency Department.
Manages staff in the Emergency Department, provides management of operational and nursing activities.
Consults with staff, physicians and Nursing Administration on nursing problems and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met.
Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities.
Prepares and monitors annual department operating budget.
Must be able to carry out nursing duties and work in a staff RN role, when needed.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for planning, conduction and coordinating leadership and staff meetings.
Responds to emergent situations to promote optimal patient outcomes and address patient/family concerns.
Demonstrates knowledge of equipment needs of ED, which includes purchase, maintenance, inventory and replacement.
Develops Departmental mission to be aligned with organizational strategic plan.
Develops critical Annual Operating Goals that align with the strategic focus of the organization.
Demonstrates strong knowledge of budget preparation and use.
Operates with fiscal responsibility to provide the department’s Scope of Services in both the Operating and Capital budgets.
Demonstrates commitment to professional growth by attending or participations in management training and/or continuous education on an annual basis.
Develops, implements, measures and monitors success of plans designed to improve associate professional educational levels on core competencies.
Demonstrates ways to enhance the quality of communications between the department and its customers, fellow associates, other departments, physicians and the community.
Fosters and promotes teamwork within the department and the organization as a whole.
Resolves conflicts constructively, and in a timely manner.
Demonstrates appropriate computer based skills commensurate with job duties.
Develops departmental projects to promote PI and Quality standards based on latest best practices.
Education and Training Requirements:
Current New Mexico or multi-state RN license
BSN required
Master’s prepared preferred
BLS (AHA) required
ACLS (AHA) required
PALS (AHA) required
GRMC approved EKG course within 3 months of hire and annually
TNCC, ENPC, & CEN preferred
Trauma level designation experience preferred
Stroke Center designation experience preferred
Cardiac Center designation experience preferred
5 years Emergency Department experience preferred
