This position is responsible for optimizing surgical scheduling, throughput, and block management for the operating rooms.
The position also maintains daily surgical statistics.
The coordinator works closely with the finance department, ensures surgical authorizations are in place and performs a daily review and reconciliation of financial charges.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: · Provides scheduling in accordance with the scheduling policies and procedures.
· Ensure that all scheduling calls are received courteously and answered promptly · Use historical case times in Meditech and turnover data to calculate room time and incorporate this into the schedule.
Clarify times with the Team Leader in the OR and surgeon for combined cases.
· Collaborate with the Surgeon’s office staff, anesthesia team and OR team leader to provide the most optimal schedule for the surgeon.
oConsider other services that needs to be available for the case, i.
e.
, pathology, imaging, or vendors oCoordinate case needs with vendors to ensure critical equipment and instrumentation needs are met for the day of surgery.
· Review surgical schedules daily for the upcoming week; clarify information with the surgeon’s offices and communicate changes to the involved departments and vendors.
· Ensure accurate recording of proposed CPT codes and appropriate insurance authorizations were obtained.
Collaborate with patient access and the surgeon’s offices to ensure discrepancies are corrected before the day of surgery.
· Consult with the OR and ASU charge nurses and anesthesia providers to ensure staffing and room availability · Build and maintain surgical blocks in Meditech.
Collaborate with the OR analyst to keep utilization statistics and provide data to the surgeons, Block- and OR committees.
· Post OR charges daily.
Provide information to the finance department and use optimal accounting practices to reconcile charges.
oReport documentation discrepancies to the OR charge nurse oProvide corrections to finance to ensure accurate billing.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum work experience: Two or more years of related healthcare experience is required.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
· Knowledge of various surgical specialties and procedures.

· An understanding of surgical flow and the various services that must be consulted to move cases for forward, i.
e.
, conflict checking of instrumentation and equipment and services that are needed for surgical cases.
· Comfort with a variety of computer systems, including Excel spreadsheets, Word documents and electronic health records.
Experience with Meditech and Athena is a plus.
· Knowledge of surgical authorizations.
· Previous experience with posting charges and financial reconciliation is preferred.
